We are reading Uneasy Homecoming so that we can practice building suspense in our own stories. The focus is on making connections to the story, learning new vocabulary & looking for those foreshadowing moments. Uneasy Homecoming story

This week we had some time to get ready for our first quiz on the introduction and Chapter 1. We had the quiz and the marks are now uploaded on PowerSchool. Next week, we'll start Chapter 2 : La démocratie en action.

This week we finished looking into how to find a verb in a sentence by using the strategies seen in class : encadre par ne...pas, c'est une action, je ne peux pas l'enlever de la phrase.  We watched the movie ''Nightmare before Christmas'' (L'étrange Noël de Monsieur Jack) and the students had a short listening evaluation about it.  Next week, we will go over the strategies to find the subjects to be able to conjugate the verbs well in a sentence.  We will also start a novel study in class about this book : ''La plus grosse poutine au monde''.

Week 8 : October 25th

Homeroom
October 31st is Halloween. Students are invited to dress up if their costume follow some parameters :
  • Avoid excessive gore
  • Weapons of any kind are not permitted
  • No masks
  • Please use discretion when choosing attire, remembering the school environment includes students with varying sensitivities
  • Ensure costumes are easy to get into and out of for the washroom
  • Ensure costumes allow for safe and easy movement at school and will not interfere with your child's ability to participate in regular class work and in gym class.

This week we presented our project to the class and voted. The projects about Technology won in both grade 6 classes. We also started to study for our first quiz using the Study Guide. The quiz will be on Wednesday, October 30th.

FLA - Poliquin

This week, students finished their short descriptive text and took some notes on how to find a verb in a sentence to help with the conjugation with their subject.  We will continue on that subject next week.  Here is the worksheets : Verbe - Sujet

Week 7: October 18th

Homeroom:

David Thompson School Parent and Band Parent Societies have teamed up to raise money for both programs! Money raised by Band students will go directly back to their personal band accounts. Every Students received an order form and it needs to be back to school before November 6th.

For Halloween, the school is organizing a contest. As a homeroom, we need to decorate our classroom door with recycled object and make it spooky. If you have any recycling that can be use for this purpose, please send it to school with your child. Thank you


Next week, students can retake their class pictures on October 24th and they have their shots on October 25th.

We are reading Charles & working on an assignment exploring the 2 sides of Laurie's personality. The assignment will involve writing as well as representing. It will be due on Tuesday 22nd.

Week 6: October 11th

Homeroom:

FLA: Poliquin


This week we listened to a song (Coton ouaté - Bleu Jeans Bleu) and the students had an evaluation where they had to listen to it again and fill in the blanks with the missing words on their sheet.  The results will be posted during the week-end on Power School.  We went over the answers on the first part of the verb tenses worksheet (infinitif, présent et imparfait).  We will correct the future tense (futur simple) next Tuesday.

Next week, we will continue working a short descriptive text about an object or a person or a place.  They need to describe their subject in the past, present and future tense.  It is class work.  I will evaluate their use of the different verb tense we have seen in class  : imparfait, présent et futur simple.

We will go to the library on October 16th.

This week we read the short story Charles so that next week we can investigate how characters are created & developed throughout a story. How do we create interesting, multidimensional characters in our own stories.

This week, we completed our study of the Canadian charter and we started to talk about politics. We watch an episode of  Dragon's Den and in groups we are getting ready to present our own school project to the class. During next week, we will organize ideas and present our school development project. We will also talk about different political party and get ready to do our Student Vote on Friday, October 18th.

FLA song

There will be a short listening evaluation this Thursday.  We read the song and listened to it together and the students will have to listen to it again Thursday and fill in the blanks with the missing words.  Here is a copy of the lyrics : Coton ouaté - Bleu Jeans Bleu.

I suggest they read the song and listen to it today and tomorrow.

FLA - homework

In FLA, students will have to finish the past tense section (Imparfait) in this booklet, "Le verbe" for Wednesday and the future tense (futur simple) for next Tuesday.

I made a mistake for the update of last week and posted it on another post (the one for this week, that is still not published).  Here is the post of last week, if you are interested :

This week we took some notes about the verb tenses : imparfait, présent, futur et infinitif.  The students also started working on a booklet about verbs and if their are not done the infinitive and the present tense they will have it as homework.  We will go over the answers Monday.

Next week,  the students will have to finish the verb tenses booklet and they will have a short descriptive text to write in which I will evaluate the uses of the different verb tenses we have seen so far.

FLA-Homework for Monday October 7th

We are currently working on the verb tenses (imparfait, présent, futur simple et infinitif).  The work we are doing in class will have to be done for Monday, October 7th.  We had Tuesday, Wednesday and will have tomorrow to work on the booklet.  What will not be finished, must be done for Monday.  

Sadly, students don't have a personal copy of the booklet.  If they want to finished their homework or to print it to be able to write on it, here is a copy of it : Le verbe.

Week 5: October 4th

Students are working on Language Power 7&8 this week. We start each class reading or journaling, so make sure you have renewed your library book or done whatever "shark-like" behavior you need to do this week. Have a chat with your parents about The Shark & the Goldfish. They should know what it means to be a shark! Puzzle pieces and write-ups need to be done by Wednesday 2nd so that we can all start reading Charles by Shirley Jackson.

Social: Turcotte

This week in Social, we explored and discussed about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom. We also talked about our school Rights and why it is important for a citizen to know them. Next week, we will start to talk about politics, how political party are formed and how to convince your audience that your ideas are the best.
