FLA - Week 2

This week we went over what we knew about the noun and took notes about it.  The students had to find nouns (proper, common, feminine and masculine) in a text and search the rules that tell us how to transform a masculine word into a feminine word and a singular word into a plural word.

Below is a link for the worksheets we did and are still working on :

Le nom (worksheet)
Le genre et le nombre des mots

Students must be prepared when arriving in class.  That means they must have their FLA binder and the worksheets we are working on.  I will rarely have an extra copy of what we are currently working on, so whoever will lose their worksheet will have to print it from the blog.

ELA:
This week we were working on The Shark & the Goldfish. This book is about becoming a "shark" in order to build resilience & independence. We talked about ways to connect to the book, through text to self, text to text and text to world. It's important to build routine, so we will be reading or journalling at the start of every class. Grammar is also important to practice so we will be using Language Power on a weekly basis to keep our skills up. This week we did lesson 1&2.
Next week: We will continue our reading of The Shark & the Goldfish. Students will also begin the fun project of representing themselves as a piece of a puzzle. The Puzzle Piece will represent each individual's skills, likes, family etc. with a  corresponding piece of writing to explain why the symbols and words are the way they are!

Bienvenue

Homeroom : Turcotte

Monday, September 9th is school pictures day.

ELA : Feke

It is lovely to be back to reading and writing again! Please ensure you have a notebook (or one will be provided for you) and a book to read on Monday 9th. I’ve included the course outline for your perusal: Course Outline 6

FLA : Poliquin

Good to have you back again this year!  This week we went over the course outline (click here to see it) and the students started a short worksheet on how to use the dictionary.  The students also brainstormed and tried to remember whatever they could on those two subjects :  grammar and descriptive writing.  There was a lot of interesting information given by the students.  Here are two pictures of their cooperative work.

Also, here is the link with the video about the “Alphabet”.

Social Studies : Turcotte

Welcome back to David Thompson grade 6s! It will be my pleasure to be your homeroom teacher and your social studies teacher this year. You can click on the  Course Outline 6 SS to find all the information about what we will be studying in Social Studies this year. This week, we started slowly by getting to know each other, we talked about our class routines and reviewed the geography of our country.

Math & Science : Poirier

After just 4 days of school, students had the opportunity to meet with friends, review some grade 5 knowledge from last year and meet there new teachers.

I am teaching Math, Science and art to all grade 6 students. Students are expected to speak French in my class at all time. You will notice that Social Studies and French Language Art teachers will ask for the same expectations. This is your kid's first challenge of the year. All year long, I will be there to help students in any of there school challenges.

Each Student will receive a Textbook in Math. We will ask students to cover those textbooks with strong paper (not just a book sock). They will get there own textbook before mid-September.

In Math, students will have homework every day from Monday to Thursday (never on weekend). In Science they might get 5 to 6 projects in the whole year.

You can find the courses outlines by clicking on the following links : Course Outline Math 6 Course Outline Science 6 Course Outline Art 6

This week in Phys. Ed. we introduced the students to all the PE Teachers and talked about the expectations of PE. We explained how the students will be assessed throughout the term as well. All the students should have received a PE Locker in the Change Room. They should be bringing their Gym Strip home on Fridays to get it washed for the upcoming week. We started our Soccer Module this week and will continue that into next week as well! Have a great weekend.
