Week 20 - January 30th

Math 6- Poirier

We will start geometry this coming week (Recognizing and measuring angles)
Students will need their Protractor for the next 3 weeks.

Students will have a Math Test on Wednesday, February 5th 2020 on the unit of decimal numbers.  This is what is on the test:

- Reconnaitre la valeur des nombres décimaux (ex: 3,4 est plus gros que 3,042)
- Additionner, soustraire, multiplier et diviser les nombres décimaux.
- Estimer le produit et quotient mentalement à l'aide des points de repères 
- Problèmes à résoudre (attention:  $ = 2 chiffres après la virgule)
- Écrire les nombres décimaux sous forme symbolique, en mots et tableau de valeurs.

Social : 
This week in social we finished our project on the French services that are offered in Calgary. We continued our notes on the provincial government and we started a group project on the 4 different political jobs, the Lieutenant-Governor, the members of the Legislative Assembly, the Minister and the Prime Minister. Next week, we will continue this project. Students can use their textbook or a reliable website like this one : http://www.assembly.ab.ca/pub/gdbook/GuideDuCitoyen.pdf.

FLA:
This week we continued working on the ''discours oratoire''.  Here are the guidelines and the rubric: Discours oratoire.  Students will start presenting on February 18th.  Even if two periods a week are scheduled to work on this project, I would advise students to work some of it at home.  Next week, we will finish the book ''La plus grosse poutine du monde''.

A spelling bee contest has been announced.  If students want to participate, here is the list of word for the spelling bee : concours d'épellation.  The finals will be during the week of March 9th.

Week 19 - January 24th

Social Studies

This week in social we started our notes on the Provincial Government and a research project about French services that are offered in Calgary. Next week, we will finish this project and continue notes.


Math 6- Poirier

We will estimate results of decimal numbers (÷/x mentally).

We talked about the "discours oratoire".  Their will be a few periods reserved to work on that at school, but it is expected that sudents will have to finish it and practice it at home.  The presentations will start February 18th.  Here are the guidelines and rubric : Discours oratoire.

ELA:
We have been writing paragraphs this week based on one topic, of the student's choice. Narrative, persuasive, descriptive & expository. 4 kinds of paragraphs

Week 18: January 17th

Homeroom

Next week will be the first week with 3 grade 6s classes. 6-3 will start on Monday in room 40 with Mme Turner.

Social: 

This week in social, we got ready for our chapter 5 quiz. The quiz was on Thursday and we went over it as a class on Friday, all the results are in PowerSchool. Next week, we will start chapter 6 - Provincial Government.

Math 6

We will continue practicing + - x of decimal numbers and will start ÷ of decimal numbers.  All week, students will practice calculating with decimal numbers.

This week in social we completed our chapter on Local Government and we started the Study Guide. You can also use the textbook if you want to continue at home. The quiz will be next Thursday. I am still working on the Quizlet, it should be ready by Monday night. Next week, we will have some more time to finish the study guide and start chapter 6 on Provincial Government.

Social
This week in Social we finished our project, corrected our first notes on Local Government and we watched the Breadwinner. During the viewing, students were asked to note the similarities and the differences between the Canadian culture and the Afghanistan culture. After the movie, they will develop on the different point of view and realities. After the break, we will continue to learn about the Local Government and what they do for our society.

FLA 
This week we read page 45 to 81 from ''La plus grosse poutine du monde''.  Students will have to prepare a presentation at home about a typical dish from somewhere around the World.  Here are the guidelines and rubric : Présentation.  The presentations will start on January 13th.
